Hi, I’m Nicola and this is my beautiful, gentle therapy dog, Pudding.
As a parent myself, I know what it’s like to be worried about my child’s mental health and to trawl through counsellor profiles looking for the person who can help them.
I have worked with hundreds of 7- to 19-year-olds at a childrens’ mental health charity, in schools working with children affected by domestic violence and in private practice. I also have eight years’ experience at another local charity working with LGBTQ+ adults and young people and those who are questioning their sexuality.
There are many reasons you might be looking for help for your child. I have helped children and young people with issues including anxiety, sadness, bullying or problems at school, fear, low mood, family break-ups, low self-esteem/confidence, ASD, sibling rivalry, sexuality and gender, dealing with change, loss of loved ones/pets, anger, behavioural and attachment issues.
I chose to train in integrative therapy because it allows me to tailor each client’s therapy to their individual needs. I can quickly put your child at ease and create the therapeutic relationship needed for change to occur. Making the sessions fun by playing games or doing art and crafts. I listen to their worries and their stories and where appropriate help them to see things differently. I help build their self-esteem and challenge their limiting beliefs.
Pudding loves going to work and being with my clients and seems to just know what each client needs. Sometimes that means playing with her or having her sit quietly by them or on their knee being stroked, other times she will merely be a calming presence in the room.
I receive regular supervision to ensure the safety of myself and my clients and keep up to date on current practice by gaining at least 30 hours’ continuous professional development a year and am member of the BACP, adhering to their ‘Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions’. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate. Both myself and Pudding are covered by professional liability and indemnity insurance.
‘I feel so lucky to have found Nicola, she is the perfect counsellor. She is so kind and makes me feel completely at ease. She has been, and continues to be, the person I know will be there to help me whatever emotional difficulty I’m faced with, without hesitation. The thing that really sets Nicola apart, for me, is just who she is. She is open, warm and genuinely cares about her clients. Her guidance and techniques have been completely invaluable to me and my development through the struggles of mental health’

‘I know, without hesitation, that you are the person who will walk with those who are ready to take the journey to see these parts of themselves. The weak bits that run away in fear, the traumas that hunt down and devour peace, the anger that keeps happiness behind bars. You are the person who is brave enough to stand by your clients’ side and help them to forgive their weakness, strengthen their peace and reconcile their anger. You don’t just talk about making the world a better place, you actually go out and make a real difference.’
